A milestone in Saudi’s digital transformation
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been recently ranked second globally for the provision of digital services and subsequent adoption. The revelation was contained in a report released by Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
The Kingdom’s outstanding accomplishment is mainly attributed to its ambitious digital transformation roadmap coupled with its COVID-19 response strategy, in line with a broader strategy by members of the Gulf Cooperation Council to offer enhanced and efficient digital services to their citizens and residents. In recent times, the GCC member States have prioritized digital services and expansion.
High degree of satisfaction
BCG’s study shows that the level of satisfaction of digital government services in Saudi Arabia is high, with a net satisfaction score of 76 percent compared to the averages of developed countries (64 percent) and developing countries (58 percent). Additionally, the digital service offered in Saudi Arabia has been met with a positive response, with the Kingdom’s citizens placed highly in terms of frequency of access. In total, 70 percent of Saudi respondents revealed they use digital government once per week minimum, 23 percent above the global average.
The National Strategy for Digital Transformation
The Kingdom has worked on developing a five-year strategy within three action plans.
First action plan: 2006 – 2010
This first plan enabled everyone by the end of 2010 to obtain government services at a distinguished level from anywhere and at any time in an integrated, easy, and safe electronic mean.
Second action plan: 2012 – 2016
The second plan allowed everyone to use effective government services in a safe, integrated, and easy way through multiple electronic channels.
Third action plan: 2020 – 2024
The third plan, the current strategy, seeks to realize a smart government.
The Kingdom’s milestone achievement is commendable and underlines the determination of GCC member states to become world leaders in the provision of efficient digital services.
